Spending the Jackpot 2025

RomCom
Awaiting stars on Amazon...
What more could you want when you already have it all?

Alice Cash always considered herself lucky. A kind husband. Two lovely children. A cosy house. A three-star Spanish holiday every year. What more could anyone want?

Then her husband Freddie wins £2.3 million—and everything begins to unravel.

Suddenly it’s Rolexes, Porsches and private school interviews. Gone is their annual trip to Casa Lola. In its place: a luxury hotel full of snobs and strangers. As Freddie chases a glitzier future, Alice quietly mourns the life they’ve left behind—and starts giving their money away in secret. But while Freddie tries to ‘upgrade’ their lives, he’s hiding a secret of his own. One that could bankrupt their marriage in more ways than one.

A sharply observed, big-hearted novel about love, money, miscommunication and the courage to want less when you’re being offered more. Spending the Jackpot is a bitter-sweet, lump-in-the-throat comedy perfect for fans of David Nicholls, Gillian Harvey and Nick Hornby.

Mick wants to know when he's going to die.

Luckily for him, there's now an app for that.

That’s all well and good, but he’s also bought the app for his daughter, his grandchildren, and even his eleven-year-old great-grandson. He wants them each to wait until their next birthday to use the app. But whether they scoff at it, sneak an early look, desperately turn into a health nut, or die before their appointed time, the gift is wreaking havoc on the whole family.

This dark, insightful novel about hope, fear, and stubborn curiosity reminds us that we never quite know what lies ahead—and that when it comes to love and family, there’s no time like the present.

Writing as Jeremy Dean

Zen Kyu Maestro 2013

Memoir
4.5 stars on Amazon

A year teaching Spanish primary children their entire curriculum in English - in Spain.

What could possibly go wrong?

Not long ago, Jeremy and his wife, Linda – both 25-year-veterans of the English education system – decided it was time for a change. So they quit their nice, safe jobs and moved to an ‘immersion school’ in a picturesque town some distance north of the Costas.
The financial storm is just about to break, none of the kids can speak a word of English, and no-one seems to know what’s going on…

This is the diary of Jeremy Dean’s first year in this bizarre system (a system he comes to love, along with the children), complete with endless confusion, misunderstandings, a heart attack and an eye-opening insight into a Spain the average Briton never sees.

A beautifully light hearted account of Mr. Dean's trials and tribulations in Spain. It's well written, amusing and often hilarious. After a while, you realise that you're getting an easy to digest insight into the very best aspects of Spain, its people and culture. He clearly loves the mischievous children he bravely struggles to educate whilst jumping the hurdles thrown before him by the language and the school management.

Absolutely loved this! Thank you Meesa Dee for sharing your teaching (and non-teaching) adventures in Spain with us. It's an excellent read; funny, touching and just wonderful all the way through. By the end of the book, you really feel like you personally know all the characters and are hungry for more. Part two please!

Cucarachas or Cucuruchos? 2019

Memoir
4.8 stars on Amazon

Jeremy Dean is back. Having just about survived a ‘seat-of-his-pants’ first year teaching Spanish junior children, in English, in a very ‘Spanish’ part of Spain – he’s returned for a second attempt. Jeremy’s second year is meant to be a success, although he couldn’t have foreseen the teachers inadvertently eating a child’s birthday cake; nor did he mean to teach the younger children to call their teacher a ‘cheeky cow’ - or tell his own class that he likes to eat pigeons; and why didn't anyone warn him against saying 'Austria' in the classroom? Cucarachas or Cucuruchos: An English Teacher’s Spanish Dilemma is the long-awaited sequel to Zen Kyu Maestro: An English Teacher’s Spanish Adventure. If you teach English; are learning a foreign language; or simply want to know whether foreigners really do speak faster than Brits... Cucarachas or Cucuruchos? It's the least of your worries. Jeremy might have survived once – who knows whether his luck will hold.

Once again Meesta Dee has produced a wonderfully entertaining account of what it's like to be an English teacher in Spain. His tales of Spanish life alongside anecdotes from his immersive schoolteaching make for a cracking read that you just can't put down.
